Bento Fun #136
Yesterday was extremely hot here and we actually went into the room by 8.30pm so that we can chill in the a/c room. Our electricity bills have been sky rocketing in the past few months as we switched on the a/c so often especially the one in the living room which has a higher horse power during the day. Can’t wait for more rain falls to come!
Before going to sleep last night, Darrius came and whisper into my ear that he do not want any bento today. I was already half way into Lala-land and gave him a ‘ah…yeah’ kind of answer.
So when I woke up this morning I was thinking if I should pack anything for him? Then I saw my lovely purple sweet potatoes sitting in the basket on the table and thought I’ll just steam some for him as I know he likes sweet potatoes. I cut them into another one of his favorite shape… FLOWERS!

I had some mini chicken cocktails left in the freezer so I used them together with some steamed carrot. The purple sweet potatoes were so tasty that I almost finished the odds and ends after I cut them out. Added a cherry tomato and some of the Loaker’s wafer for him.
During the ride to school, Darrius asked me if I packed any bento for him? I told him ‘YES’ and told him to finish everything inside as I made him his flowers… which he refered to the game ‘Flower eat them’. I said, ‘Flowers eat them so you must eat the floowers!’
Well, the weekend is finally here so TGIF all! Have a great weekend and happy bento-ing!

Same here … it has been extremely hot this week. AC in the house is like 24H never stop, can’t sleep without AC hehehe … So nice to see your flower shapes purple potatoes! Have a great weekend with your family
Thanks Lia!
Yes… it is so hot for the past months! Luckily we got some rains over the weekend so it helps cooled down during bed time.
Hope Darrius will finished up this lovely bento! The flower shape purple sweet potatoes are so nicely cut. Everytime I steamed the sweet potatoes, wonder if I over-steamed them and they always end up quite dry and they fall apart when I try to cut them into some shapes! Any tips?
Wish you and family a great weekend!
KDW – He did not finish again! But at least he ate something there and I got lots of complain from his teachers! This boy really a huge headache!
Hmm… I don’t have any tips with these sweet potatoes… what I did this time is to sliced them first (since I am in a rush) so I steamed for about 8 or 10 minutes on small flame. It is tough to get them out from the cutter when they are still hot so what I did was double deck cutting them (push on another slice while the first slice still in the cutter and then let the 2nd slice push the 1st slice up).
Gosh, we have thunderstorms every evening but like you or rather Lia Chen, my ac is on practically 24hrs! The sweet potatoes are lovely but my princess doesn’t eat them.
