Bento Fun #169 – Lil’ Caterpillar
Good Monday everyone!
Can’t believe it is the start of another week! Time passes just too quickly… How I wish I could have more time so that I can do more things!
To start off the week, I packed a bento for Darrius. This boy has not been eating much the past couple of days as he was complaining about those ugly ulcers erupted on his lower lip. He has been refusing lots of food and taking hell of a long time to finish them. He spent 2.5 hours to finish a small bowl of porridge last Friday! I cooked the porridge courtesy of him since he can’t take harder food. However, when he felt hungry, he requested for cereal bites which are so much harder than all the food I have been giving him! Kids!
So, what’s in the box today?
I made him a cute caterpillar with lots of goodies in the box. Caterpillar is made of 5 mini bread onigiri filled with mayo+meat floss. Details are nori cut-out. There are some broccoli, strawberries, flower shaped carrot slices, small corn on the cob, endamame on skewers and a mini chicken cocktail.
Instead of using the biggest round cutter to cut the bread out for making these little balls, I used the medium one. Thus, they are smaller and I can make a few more to form the caterpillar. I used some spaghetti stripes to hold them together to form a semi-circle. These small balls are just perfect for little fingers!
I am entering this bento for this month’s B.O.M.B Challenge. The B.O.M.B for July is out at Hapa’s Bento. The theme for this round is ‘What for picnic?’. Very interesting right?
We love to go for a picnics but the weather here is not so suitable (it can be hot and sunny one moment and in the next moment there can be rain and storms!) so we’ve never done any around here. However, we managed to do a few times when we were in Australia recently.
Darrius and my hubby enjoyed tremendously as that was the first few times they ever had a picnic! I used to go for picnics during my uni days in Perth and I really missed those days. The air, the weather (clear blue sky!) and the grass are just so perfect to lay down the mat and enjoy the beauty of nature!
Darrius first picnic experience was when we were in Perth last year. It was the Spring 2009 and there was a Wild Flowers Festival at Kings Park. There were lots of activities which relates to flowers, plants and all things nature in that beautiful country. Heard of Kangaroo Paw? That was actually a type of wild flower!
I was heavily pregger (at 32-week gestation) with Baby G that time but we still continued with the trip since hubby has lots of those frequent flyer points to redeem. The lady sitting next to me is my aunt who is living in Perth.
Darrius enjoyed the chicken drummet that I packed for the picnic which was the left over food we had from our barbeque session the night before. And after we had our food, hubby let Darrius play with his new boomerang…
The photos brough back heaps of memories and the thought of going back soon kept coming to mind! I can’t wait for our time to spend every weekends having picnics at these beautiful parks!!!
That’s all for today. Hope you have a fabulous week ahead.

Oh yeah, heard about HMFD is on the rise but I know Darrius’s is not from that!
He had too much of those fried and crispy stuff the weeks before and he never
drink enough water! Heaty!!
I was waiting all morning for an update hhaaha. I made a caterpillar like this before with fishballs.
Hope the ulcers go away soon.

Thanks dear!
They cleared up but he still eat as slow as a snail!
wow.. this is so beautiful..may i know what type/brand of nori/seaweed that you use? i have prob handling mine as they go soggy very fast after opening the pack o_0||
The seaweed I’m using was bought by my MIL from Japan.
I normally keep my seaweed in the fridge so they will be crisp
when I take them out they will go limp too after a few minutes
so I will only take them out when I am about to punch.
Hope that helps!
What a festive looking bento! Love the pictures, too.
