Bento Fun #172 – Hey! Diddle~ Diddle~
I asked Darrius before dinner time, what he would like to have in his bento and he told me ‘Moon and Stars!’. I was a little puzzled initially coz I was expecting him to tell me Mickey Mouse or Teddy Bear. I questioned him back, ‘You don’t want any bear?’ and he shook his head.
Ok, moon and stars… what can I do?
.
Hey diddle diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon…
.
Recognize this nursery rhyme? This is among the few nursery rhymes that I really like coz there’s a cow involved!
Yes, I have a soft spot for any thing that is a moo-moo cow!
And here is the bento…
I made some soy sauce chicken drummets for dinner but did not have anything in mind earlier but the ‘Moon & Stars’ theme don’t really affects what’s the side dish actually! I did not make any hard boiled egg so I can’t add the yolk to the rice to make it yellowish instead I used the balanced pumpkin from Baby G’s porridge and add into Darrius’s rice and made a moon onigiri out of it! The moon is moulded freehand… too bad the yellow color on the moon was not that visible.
There are some broccoli, strawberries, some waxed meat (lap-cheong) and a small corn on the cob with some carrot slices in star shaped. Not much intricate work to do… nori details are punched out so easy-peasy! I have this cow cupcake topper which I bought long time ago fits really well into this theme!

He finished in 45 mins which is still better than his usual 2.5 hours! He even cleaned up a bowl of soup which was not in the photo. Looks like bento meal is a sure winner this time!

Thanks Karen!
I love this bento! So colourful and fun!
I think you must be very happy and Darrius too! Win-win!
Yes Tona! I really am very tired of him taking ages to finish his meals.
It is good too that he has his bento at home so I can ‘force’ him to
finish everything!
Holy Cow! Hee hee. This is such a creative use of the request for Moon and Stars. I love having a bento challenge and trying to come up with a solution. This is a great themed bento!

Thanks Sonoma!
Sometimes kids can come up with more challenging theme than we can think of!
Love the cow topper. Was gonna ask you where you got that but you had already answered my question. Well, at least now you’ve found a winning solution to dinner woes. Glad that he is eating well now. So cute food does work! It’s worth all the hassle,

Yes SIG… we gotta bribe the kids all the time! So, now I have to spend 30 minutes to do his bento
and he takes 30-40 minutes to eat and it is still faster than me spending 5 minutes preparing his bowl of
rice and wait for 2.5 hours for him to finish it!
Love your bento! I’m a “moo moo” person too (if you realized my email add) hehe.

Cute bento dinners sometimes works for Zo but sometimes doesn’t, it’s pretty much depending on her “moods” & appetite. Spoiled by grandma. sighs.

He looks really happy with his bento. You did a great job for moon & stars theme for him . As long as our kids happy with their bento, then I think so many hours that we spend to prepare the bento won’t be a matter
