Bento Fun #176 – Mickey & Minnie

Yeah! It is mid-week already! I dreaded these few weeks as hubby still needs to cover for his boss where he has to attend 3 night conferences a week. It kind of upset the kids’ sleeping time because daddy is not sleeping when they are. Darrius will keep asking why daddy is not coming in the room yet? Luckily, most of the time hubby did the conference calls from home but occasionally he has to go back to office around 11pm till 2am. Bummer right? Still have to endure another 2 weeks and we will be back to normal!

Anyway, I have stopped packing snack bento for Darrius since his teachers complaint that he don’t show interest in eating during break time. He would rather play… o_O

Therefore he will be famished when he comes home. I will try to pack his lunch in the bento box since he eat faster that way! :D

Today, I finally did the Mickey & Minnie which was in his wish list for the longest time! I bought the cutter and puncher set quite a while ago but never get about doing it coz I knew it will require a longer time.

I gotta prepared all the ingredients/cooking before I start doing the Mickey and Minnie rice balls. Baby G was napping at that time and I was praying that she will not wake up but as fate has it way, the neighbor’s dog started his barking spree and soon the Lil’ cow was crying non stop. No choice but to bring her down and see mommy pack bento!

I actually added some pumpkin to the rice so there are some colors for Mickey’s and Minnie’s face. Then I traced out the black area of the face/head on a piece of paper before I cut out the shape on nori using scissors. I compacted the rice into the cookie moulds to get the shape out and use the Mickey’s face puncher to get all the facial details. Then I wrapped some rice in small pieces of nori to get ears out and attached with some spaghetti stripes. All the while Baby G was watching! :D

There is a small section of corn on the cob, chicken nuggets (Darrius’s favorite!), broccoli, some strawberries, carrot slices in flower shapes and some snap peas.

Darrius finished everything except the lettuce which was expected. He will eat those lettuce once in a while depending on his mood. It is good that he is having his bento at home so I can monitor him and make sure he finished everything! :P

The Mickey & Minnie onigiri were not up to my expectation yet and I hope to make a few more tries to perfect them! So, expect to see more of them in my coming posts! :P

Also, I’ve added this bento to What’s for Lunch Wednesday at Shannon’s. Add your bento so others can see too!

  1. Cute Mickey & Minnie! I hope I can find a weekend to pack bento lunch for JY too! I salute you, I just can’t find the mood to pack bento when my younger boy is around bugging me during weekends :)

I don’t have the choice coz this fella eat too slow! Have to entice him with all the cute things and things he likes so I can save 30 mins of my breath telling him to finish his food! My baby still can’t talk so I still can do the bento with her around. Once she knows how to walk… I guess that’s the end of lunch or dinner bentos! :P

Wow! I am so impressed! I bought some Mickey Mouse stuff to make a Disney bento for my friend Tim who loves loves loves Mickey. I am almost afraid to show him your bento because I know mine won’t be anywhere near as good. :) I hope the time flies by for your hubby and that he can be back with you soon.

I love the Mickey & Minnie! I wish they sold more of these things here. I see so many cute bentos and can’t find things to make them with in Texas. I need to vacation to bento shop sometime!

Thanks for adding it to last week’s link up! :o )

      Thanks Shannon!
Actually you can get most of these stuff from e-stores.
They do deliver to international addresses just that
it might be a little costly on the shipping charges
but still cheaper than a vacation! :D

Nice Mickey & Minnie. You really put in lots of efforts (and love) to make Darrius eats, and glad that it’s working.
