Bento Fun #185 – Rilakkuma Not!
This morning while doing my weekly groceries shopping, I found some red rice in Tesco and was very excited to try it out. First, I cooked some porridge for Baby G and then cooked a cup for lunch to see how the texture is like. It stated on the packaging that I have to cook it longer than regular rice. Since I am using rice cooker, I added more water instead and it came out just nice!
Though I only cook one cup but it appeared to be more than my regular one cup of rice. Hence I decided to keep some to make bento in the evening.
Initially I planned to do a reclining bear like the one in Kearenmama’s book but I do not have enough of the red rice (since we have to eat for lunch earlier) so have to change plan! The idea of making Rilakkuma came into mind as I really like making that little yellow bird!

I wonder which bear it looked like with the finished product??!! The ear (white area) is loopsided too! (>o<) The nose is dried blueberries and the muzzle is made of white rice. Eyes are made of egg white and nori. The side kick (yellow bird) is done using yellow coloring paste with a small slice of carrot for the beak. Nori for details. I think I like the outcome of the bird more than the bear! 
Goodies in the box includes some pan-fried soy sauce mid-section of chicken wings, some snap peas, flower carrot slices, a skewer of celery cubes with carrot flower, some dragon fruit in heart shape and strawberries.
Need to practice more in making bento meal especially with onigiri!

Emily – Thanks! The rice is quite nice actually… it tasted better than brown rice as it more springy. It is between glutinous rice and normal rice that kinda feeling…

Thanks Kuusou! The rice is Jasmine red rice from Thailand so maybe you can ask the Asian grocers if they have any.

Even if it is not exactly Rilakkuma, it is very kawaii! I love the birdy too. I am so intrigued by the dragon fruit. I will have to see if I can find some. Happy Monday Angeleyes!
Thanks Sonoma! Dragon fruit is from Vietnam so maybe you can try looking at the Vietnamese grocer stores… they should have it as I heard they harvest has been good this season.
The bear is cute! It seems like sniffing something outside the bento box! By the way, thanks to you I found that cute little mini cocktail sausage and I used them in my boy’s bento today

Tho it doesn’t really look like Rilakkuma, it still look cute like a very “curious” little bear. Love your color combinations too.

Yes, Darrius finished everything except the lettuce and
he even ate extra dragon fruit and some oranges too!
The rice is just his normal portion as I know how much he can eat.
