Bento Fun #198 – Smiley Froggies Mini Burgers
Woot! Finally it is Thursday! Tomorrow will be the start of the long weekend where all our Muslim friends will celebrate Hari Raya (Muslim New Year). Though I am all excited (coz hubby will be off till Monday so I can pass the kids to him!) but on second thought ‘why should I be excited about?’ Well, initially we decided to go to Ipoh (a city about 1.5 hours drive away) to visit some relatives and to pig out (Ipoh has the great White Coffee and best Chicken Rice stick Noodles or known as Ipoh Sar Hor Fun) but my dad said he can’t confirm if he will be going with my mom. So, it kinda dampen the spirit a bit. Been 3 months since I last saw the two of them. If we don’t go to Ipoh, we’ll probably rot at home! *bleah~*
Anyhow, I did not cook rice for lunch today as I wanted to finish all the bread rolls and bread in the house before the holiday starts. And here are what Darrius has for his lunch…
.

.
Hehe… yes, froggies again! My favorite Sanrio characters is Keroppi so I always have the tendencies to do all the froggies coz I love their big eyes!
I bought a packet of the mini buns on Tuesday for Darrius and Baby G and we still have some left so I cleared them by doing some mini burgers again. However, the filling for this round is much simpler, just the patties, lettuce and cheese because I ran out of the regular size tomatoes. I did not cut the bread completely so you can see they kind of tilted. The eyes are made of green lunch sheet, cheese and nori while the cheeks are made of orange lunch sheet. For the lips, I used artificial crab meat.

In the other box are the goodies. There are some chicken nuggets, a few endamame skewers, a red cherry tomato, some red seedless grapes and a bucket of red and white dragon fruit balls.
Not sure if I will make any bento for the next few days so I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my Muslim readers a Selamat Hari Raya Adil Fitri, Maaf Zahir Batin! May you have lots of joy, laughter and fun with your family and friends during the festival.
And to the rest of my readers… Happy Bento-ing!

Update:
Added this bento to WFLW Week 16 at Shannon’s.

By the way, which shop do you go to for the White Coffee?
Thanks Choo!
The shop my hubby likes (more spacious) is Sun Yun Loong near to all the 2nd car dealers area.
Last time we used to go to the one in old town but that place difficult to get parking.
Mini burgers…have to try it too. How do you always get these cute ideas?
You are so lucky that you can buy those soft buns easily and they are so tasty, especially the kind with fillings. I have to bake them myself if I want to eat them

I browse a lot of Japanese blogs and I read a lot of books to get ideas so sometimes
the ideas will over lap somehow. I normally mix and match the ideas so they won’t
look like direct copying… else that will be plagiarism!
hi, i saw the bentos that u hv made….it’s amazing! they r all so cute n look so attractive n appetising. i m new to bento-ing…trying to start. but i noticed that sometimes the rice or eggs require some colouring to make them look really good. can u pls advise me on how i can get the rice/eggs naturally coloured? i dun wanna use artificial colouring
Hi Vanessa! Thanks for popping by!
If you want to color your rice and eggs using natural coloring
then you’ll have to try using the juices of vegetables or fruits
to get the color and mix. However, doing these will require lots
of time and also finding the suitable ingredients which may not be
available all the time. Artificial coloring came in handy… most of the time.

Wow,so cute! I m waiting for your baby to grow up. I wanted to see what bento you have for girls! May I know what is lunch sheet? I notice there is a piece of paper under the buns. What is that! It looks like newspaper to me.
Thanks Ein!
Oh yea… I can’t wait for her to grow up too!!!
These brownish paper is the Japanese wax paper with newspaper print on it.
Lunch sheets is actually the commercial egg sheets which are store bought.
Your froggies look soooo happy. If only I am as creative and committed as you are to bentoing. My bentos are all so chekai
Well… I don’t spend 10 hours in the office and bring home the bacon!
I only know how to cook the bacon for now!
The frogs are cute! I always love frogs too! Darrius can finish both? Looks big to me!
Thanks KDW!
Yes… he finished everything as this was his lunch!
He even finished a bottle of Vitagen along with it.
Love the froggie faces! What a cute lunch Darrius had.
