Bento Fun #282 – Boy’s Day Bento
Tomorrow is the D-day! Packing is almost 90% done and we’ll be flying off to Lion City tomorrow. Gonna have a few hours of transit before our next flight.
This is our first vacation for 2011 and also our very first trip tagging along hubby’s biz trip to a foreign land.
Since tomorrow is Wesak Day, it will be a public holiday here. Though Darrius’s kindy will have their mid-year exam this week, I have requested that he completes them before the trip so the teacher tested him all 4 papers last Friday! O.o Initially, I have wanted him to have just 2 papers last Friday and 2 papers today… oh well! He did quite ok though he can definitely do better if not because of the squeezed time.
So, this morning I made my last bento before the school holiday which will start next weekend while we are still away. It is a little late for this theme but I was adamant to at least make one after wanting to make this theme for quite a while.

Baby was down with fever last weekend so hubby’s aunt popped by for a visit and brought the kids some milk buns which I’ve used for making the boy. I spread some mayo and stuck those nori strips for the hair. I also folded a Samurai hat using some origami paper. For details meaning of Boy’s Day or Children’s Day in Japan check it out here.
I used 2 chicken cocktails to make the carps. Too bad I can’t dye them in colors else they will look cuter as I am already running late. I added some broiled broccoli, some green seedless grapes with blueberries, some edamame skewers, cherry tomatoes and broiled carrot sakura.
Today is Teacher’s Day here but Darrius’s school is not celebrating so I told him to at least wish his class teacher a Happy Teacher’s Day when he reached his class this morning.
That’s all for today and I’m looking forward to tomorrow as I’ll be meeting up with some bento mamas in Lion City!
