Bento Fun #312 – Little Kawaii Onigiri Bento

Good Morning peeps!

Yesterday was Labor Day in Victoria so it was a public holiday here. The long weekend passed real fast but we managed to enjoyed with some outdoor fun. We went up to Mornington Peninsula on Saturday and managed to go strawberry picking at one of the farms… and the kids enjoyed themselves tremendously! After which, we popped by the beach to admire the beauty of nature… *priceless*! Then it was B-B-Q in the park yesterday with some relatives and friends… and again, the kids had so much fun playing at the adjacent playground. :D

There was just too much food yesterday and we have to bring home of the food. Even the chicken wings I brought along had no chance to be grilled so I cooked them last night and let hubby and Darrius have them in their bento.

.

.

Darrius seems to like bringing sushi rolls so I thought I’ll give him some onigiri for a change and see if he likes it. Gave him a chicken drummet, some tamagoyaki with steamed broccoli and a Roma tomato. In the other smaller box were some strawberries which we picked last Saturday and some blueberries too for his snack.

That’s all for today… hope you’ll have a good day and Happy Bento-ing! :D

Bento Fun #311 – Tamago Sushi Rolls

Finally it is Friday! And there is something to rejoice as we’ll be having a long weekend too! Next Monday is Labor Day so school and offices will get an off day. Yippeeeeeee to that! :D

I cooked some soup last night and hubby requested to have the soup for breakfast so I cooked some rice for him and thought I’ll use the rice for making some sushi rolls for Darrius as he really likes sushi rolls of late…

.

.

Darrius is not a fan of cucumber so I did not put in any other things except the tamago (egg ommelette). I don’t have other stuff available since it is already end of the week so just make do with the tamago.

In the other box, I gave him some strawberries balance from our jello session. There are also some blueberries, 2 tamagoyaki cubes and a Roma tomato. Darrius gets to eat some free fruits in class today (every Friday is Free Fruits Day) so I did not want to add in any more snack items for him.

That’s all for the week and I wish you a great weekend ahead!

*Mattresses that suits you*

When we first landed, the very first thing we do is to look for beds and mattresses for out new place. It is such an essential thing and a must have before we can move in. It was a real challenge to find the mattresses that really suit us. Hubby prefers really firm while I on the other hand like it to be slightly soft.

We went to many places checking out the different mattresses available here. Besides trying on theĀ memory foam mattress which was not something we both like, we tried on others and finally bought 2 different types… one really firm which hubby likes and one semi firm which I like. So, now we have 2 different mattresses and we can sleep on either one as and when we like! lol Okie, we are nut case! :P

Bento Fun #310 – Monkeying Around…

Hello again!

Hope all of you having a good week. The weather here has been superb but I heard about the awful storms up north in NSW and QLD which is pretty worrying. Just hope the storms will subside soon…

This week has been a little crazy as hubby started work in his new job. I have to wake up earlier to prepare bento for him to bring to work. It was madness as he also wanted hot breakfast so you can imagine how rush it can get each morning! I will try to pack the same stuff for both my boys but hubby prefers rice and noodles where else Darrius prefers lighter stuff… he will be happier if I pack him all those junk food! :P

Finally, I went to rummage into some of my unopened boxes and took out some of my important bento gadgets. Still can’t find some of them (hubby opened and sealed back some a while back) so I just make do with what I have. With that, I took the opportunity to make a kyaraben today…

.

.

Bought a loaf of pumpkin seeds and a loaf of sunflower seeds rye bread over the weekend. Can’t find chocolate bread here unless I bake myself so was lucky the rye bread can be a substitute for a dark brown color.

So, it was a sunflower seeds rye bread sammy with cheese topped with the pumpkin seeds bread to make the monkey head. Details are nori punch outs. Added a few sections of pork sausage, a Roma tomato, some blueberries and strawberry to the box.

That’s all for today… hope you’ll have a fantastic day ahead!

Bento Fun #309 – Spam & Tamgoyaki Sushi Roll

So glad that it is finally Friday! However, Darrius still have to attend Mandarin class tomorrow morning but he did not want any bento so it is less hectic for me. I just need to cook heavy breakfast and make sure everyone will be filled till lunch time. :P

I can’t decide what to pack for him this morning and it was an impromptu decision that I went on to make sushi roll… which I seldom do!

.

.

I brought down some mince meat thinking to fry some noodles but due to the cold weather the past few days, my meat was not defrosted at all even I have brought it out from the freezer to the fridge the night before. No choice, I have to open a can of Spam and the idea of making the sushi roll came into mind.

Fried the tamagoyaki (egg roll) with some mayo in it as the kids just love the taste. And a simple sushi roll with just Spam and tamagoyaki came out with success… and the kids had some for their breaky too! :D

Added some cherry tomatoes and a tamagoyaki heart. On every Friday, Darrius gets free fruits from his school as part of a government initiative to encourage young children to eat more fruits. Therefore, I normally did not pack any fruits for him on Friday but I gave him a few blueberries since I still have some available.

That’s all for today and here wishing everyone a happy weekend! :D
